Bernini against Borromini small group
Bernini and Borromini were not only great architects and sculptors but real geniuses of their time.
The visit focuses on the juxtaposition of two different styles, by two great masters Bernini and Borromini, of 16th century architecture and sculpture.
Bernini, with his most classic style, is considered “the Pope’s architect”, for this reason Pope Urban VIII commissioned him to create the most important works in Rome, in his creations he expresses the religious values of the Vatican with precision and solemnity .
Borromini, an antisocial artist, with 20 years of artistic experience in northern Italy, has influenced his art of protest, social reform and criticism of the power of the papacy, expressing himself with disobedience and with brilliant opposition to the laws of proportion and final results.
Starting from the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Piazza della Repubblica, we arrive in front of the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria where there is the famous sculpture by Bernini, “The Ecstasy of Santa Teresa“, one of the most important works of the Baroque! We continue our tour with a visit to other important churches (San Carlo alle 4 fontane, the church of Sant’Andrea al Quirinale), Palazzo di Propaganda Fide, Elefante di Minerva one of the nine Egyptian obelisks in Rome, Church of Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, to then end in Piazza Navona, where the two great masters have left their footprints.
